Thank you for your interest in our herbal sunscreen and bug repellent. In hopes of helping you make the right choice for your skin and your family, we have provided a list of our most frequently asked questions:
Q. Is this waterproof or water-resistant?
A. It is water resistant, but it is highly recommended that you reapply more frequently as it is a natural product that works differently than the way chemical sunscreen does. No sunscreen is truly waterproof, but the beeswax in our product does help to repel the water providing protection while swimming.
Q. What is the SPF?
A. Based on the ingredients, you are getting approximately 30 SPF from the product. However, this can be modified based on the oil that you use (see next question).
Q. Do you prefer one oil over another?
A. This is a personal preference.
Red Raspberry oil has been noted as a superior source of moisturizer and contains high levels of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids. This is also a great oil that provides antioxidants and natural vitamin E which is great for your skin. It has a natural SPF between 28 and 50 and may also contain clinically significant anti-inflammatory properties.
Carrot seed oil is a vegetable oil that has the maximum amount of SPF. It is also rich in antioxidants and has very good antiseptic properties. This has been known to be good for those with fair skin colors or those who burn easily. Carrot seed oil is an essential oil with significant antioxidant, antiseptic and fragrant properties with high levels of vitamin A. Oh, and this is a great product for soothing a sunburn too. According to a study published in “Pharmacognosy Magazine” in 2009, products containing carrot seed oil have a natural SPF of 38 and 40.

Q. Can you use essential oils instead of regular oils? For example carrot seed essential oil.
A. This is not recommended. Though essential oils state their claims and have many benefits, sunscreen is not one that we have found much clinical research on. Essential oil is typically steam distilled and is a volatile oil. This means that it has completely different properties than seed oil.
Q. Does this repel ticks?
A. This is not a specific tick repellent, however, cat nip is known to deter ticks.
Q. How many servings is this?
A. It's 6 ounces (2/3 cup)
Q. How often should I reapply the product?
A. Please consider reapplying every 90 minutes. This is for use in the sun and was the bug repellent. Because it's a natural product, the skin will absorb the product quicker. As with any new product, it is always best to start gradually to determine how this works best with your skin. Try small patches to ensure there are no sensitivities and also keep an eye on your skin to ensure that you are not burning.
Q. Is this oily?
A. Again, this depends on the oil source that you use. This will definitely be more oily than your spray on or chemical sunscreen, but you shouldn't feel "wet and slippery" while wearing it. :)
Q. What is the expiration date on this?
A. As a dry product, there is no expiration on it. Do be sure to store in a cool, dry space. Once it's mixed, you should get it's full potency for about 90 days. It's still good after that, it just won't be as potent and you may want to apply more often.
Q. Is this a "reef-proof" product?
A. Yes, because this is made up of all-natural products, there are no oxybenzone and octinoxate concerns that typically impact the reef.
Q. Why can't this be shipped internationally?
A. Unfortunately, because of the herbs, the package gets stopped at the border. Fortunately, these are herbs that can easily be found in most countries allowing you the opportunity to purchase them locally.
Q. I am unhappy with the product. Who do I contact?
A. We guarantee your happiness, so if you are not happy, please reach out to us at Happiness@TheGrowNetwork.com for assistance.
